J.J. Pfister’s London Dry Capitol Gin

J.J. Pfister's London Dry Capitol Gin is an ode to Sacramento from the city's own J.J. Pfister Distilling Company, named for a Swiss immigrant who arrived in San Francisco in 1869 and built a knitting business that became known for sporting wear. The gin is distilled from organic Sacramento Valley rye with nine curated botanicals.

The Tasting Panel scored it 97 points, describing aromas of lavender, tangerine and spearmint over juniper, then a soft, silky palate of candied violet, lemongrass and exotic spice, with fennel root adding creaminess and a long, lingering sweet finish. It also took Double Gold at the Concours d'Spirits. Floral and citrusy rather than sharply juniper-led, it makes a beautiful Aviation or French 75 and a very pretty G&T with a grapefruit twist, and it is one of the best-value California craft gins on the shelf.
